What can a large spot of black on my gums mean?
I had false teeth in the front that were attached to the remaining roots about 10 years ago. About 2 years ago the area started caving in above my gum. Today I noticed a black area around the gum. It's fairly large and black, about 1 inch by a quarter inch solid black. What could this mean? It's scaring me. Thanks for your help.
This could be a variety of things from bruising to infection to even oral cancer. It's hard to know without seeing it. When was the last time you went to the dentist? I would suggest seeing a dental professional right away and they should be able to pinpoint what is going on.
Never delay getting these things checked out. The longer you wait, the greater chance there is of permanent damage.
